My UAE experience with iHerb – Frequently Asked Questions
I have always loved online shopping, especially on those days when I do not feel like spending hours in malls. It is great being able to compare products, prices and ingredients from the comfort of my couch is awesome. This post is all about my experience with iHerb, custom charges and postage, when ordering from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or any other Emirates.
iHerb is based in America, however the order delivery usually only takes 2-4 days. Supplements and organic foods are really expensive at the nutrition shops in the UAE. and the choices are very limited, so iHerb has become incredibly popular in the past years. The online shop has a large variety of supplements, herbs, organic foods, cruelty & toxin free cosmetics, essential oils and even pet products.
First I signed up for an iHerb account so for every order I place I receive 5% of my money back, which can then be used on my next order. So if I place a purchase of 500 dirhams I will get 25 dirhams off my next purchase with iHerb.
iHerb is very user friendly, and there are ‘speciality’ filters on the left side allowing users to search for organic, vegan or toxin free products only. It is also possible to select shipping savers only. By adding shipping savers to the cart it significantly reduces the shipping costs. On most of my order I pay 0-8 dirhams, no matter how heavy the package is.
At the checkout I apply my reward code: RDD731 to get 5% off my entire order and chose DHL express as a shipping option. I always make sure that the package does not reach more than 1000 dirhams in order to avoid custom charges.
The package usually arrives within 2-7 days at my doorstep. The DHL tracking number can be found when I go to ‘My account’ – Order history and then tracking on the top right.
These are the questions I am most frequently asked about ordering on iHerb. If you happen to have any other questions, please make sure to post them in the comment section below and I will answer as soon as possible.
Where do I pick up my delivery?
If you chose DHL express as a shipping option at check out the package will be delivered directly to your doorstep. DHL UAE is familiar with the (non-existent) address system, however make sure to add your phone number so they can call if they have any questions. Having packages delivered to your home or office address makes ordering from iHerb incredibly convenient.
Do I need a P.O. box?
No you only need a UAE home address, iHerb delivers directly to your home or office.
What are the custom charges? (February 2018 update)
Any order to the UAE will be taxed 5% from the 1st of January 2018 with the new VAT coming into force. The custom charges are paid for at checkout and can be found under duties and taxes. There are no additional charges when the package arrives.
How long does delivery take?
iHerb usually delivers within 2-7 days. The estimated arrival date is shown at checkout.
Which shipping option should I take?
There are two different shipping options offered for shipping to the UAE. DHL express and UPS. It is important to chose DHL to ensure that the package will arrive.
Why is shipping so expensive?
When ordering on Iherb I never pay more than 8 dirhams for shipping, no matter how heavy the package is. The trick is to add Iherb shipping savers to the cart, there are thousands items to chose from. I personally like to get probiotics and always have a look at the 0-25 dirham section. Have a look at my favourite shipping savers here.
How can I get a discount?
For 5% off the entire order (no matter if you are a first timer or not) use code RDD731.
What is my P.O. number?
There are no P.O. numbers in the current address system so I just use 00000.
Are there any items that I can not order to the UAE?
There are some items such as chocolate and marshmallows which are only shipped from October – April due to the hot temperatures. There are also supplements which are considered as prescription medicines in the UAE, these items are marked on iHerb stating that they can not be shipped.
Why are the items on iHerb so much cheaper than in the stores?
If you compare iHerb products to the same amazon products in America the prices are very similar, everything I have ordered on iHerb so far was 100% genuine. In the UAE products tend to be a lot more expensive due to higher rents and import fees.
